Hey all!
I wanted to invite any nearby Tennessee troupes to visit us over in the Bluff City! We'll be putting on our annual production at Bartlett Performing Arts Center, where we'll be exploring the four elements through tribal fusion bellydance. "The Elements" promises to be a great showcase of all things tribal fusion - from contemporary fusion to latin fusion to ATS improv and so much more!

The website for the show is memphisraqs.com/TheElements.htm

Feel free to check us out, and if you're ever in Memphis, drop me a note! We'd love to visit over a class or a margarita!

Read on for a sneak preview of the show!

" Picture yourself on a rainy street in Bombay. Busy people bustling by, hidden by umbrellas and raincoats. Music begins to play, and dancers appear out of the crowd. Umbrellas twirl above a rainstorm of spinning silver skirts. You'll be daydreaming with Tia to jazz on a rainy day, and waking back up with the upbeat steps of banghra.

Then, drift away in a cloud of silk veils floating elegantly through the air as dancers whirl and spin like dervishes. The wings of Isis will take flight in a tribute to the Egyptian Goddess of Motherhood and Fertility. Wind chimes clink in the distance, as zils ring out the rhythms of the dance.

The deep bellowing of African drums will bring you back to earth as Tuareg nomads gather for a traditional basket dance. Snake dancers will pay homage to the African spirit Dambalah, the serpent spirit who connects believers to their ancestors that dwell within the ground. Doumbeks and djembes will sing ancient rhythms of our ancestral dancers.

Nature's torch will light the darkness with candle-dancing inspired by traditional dances of the Philippines and poi-dancing from the Maori culture of New Zealand. Take warmth in the Latin heat of tangos and firey drum solos!

See how it all comes together in a performance to entertain the whole family!"
